Hi Everyone!
My name is Máire O’Shaughnessy and I am from County Meath in Ireland. I work as a primary school teacher in which I teach 3rd class (9 and 10-year-olds.).
In my free time, I play Gaelic football for my county Meath and my club Donaghmore/Ashbourne. Our Meath team won the Ladies All-Ireland final last year which was held in Croke Park last July. My teammates and I played in front of more than 50,000 people that day.
This is my first experience with the Irish Life Experience and I will be joining the trip for the Dublin leg of the trip. I am very excited to be a part of this trip and to introduce you to our culture. I will be teaching you all about Irish literature and ‘a cúpla focail’ (A few words.) from the Irish language. I hope to teach you some Gaelic football skills too. Gaelic football (GAA) is our national sport and many Irish people are very proud of the sport and their county team. You will be sure to see a range of different county jerseys being worn by Irish people during your visit to Ireland. The summer time is the height of the GAA season which means you will catch all the excitement and buzz around the country as you travel around.
I am very passionate about Irish culture and I would have grown up in a household where all things Irish were the norm. Whether it was playing or listening to Irish traditional music, playing Gaelic football, or speaking ‘as Gaelige,’ there was no shortage of Irish cultural traditions. I am really looking forward to meeting you all and sharing the cultural aspects of our wonderful little island. I hope I can help you get the most out of your trip while you are in Dublin and I look forward to sharing the experience with you!
Roll on the Irish Life Experience 2023!
