Just going to Ireland would have been awesome, but going with the ILE made it a truly amazing and memorable experience. At first I was hesitant to go on such a long trip. I had never been away from home for more than two weeks and this was four weeks long. However, the counselors immediately made me feel right at home, and I knew that it would be an awesome trip no matter the length of it. By the end, I didn’t even want to leave Ireland and all my new friends; I would have loved to have stayed and seen so much more.
I felt that the ILE had the perfect mix between learning, exploring, free time, and group time. I didn’t feel at all like I was forced to stay with the group and that I wouldn’t be able to explore how I wanted. There was also free time to do whatever I wanted with many places to go. Never did I feel alone and/or stuck, or bored and wishing to go home.
All the places we stayed were pretty nice, a lot better than I could have hoped for. The best place of all was when we were in Galway at the end of the trip. In Galway we had apartments that we shared with three other people. The apartments were really cool, they had three floors, enough rooms for everyone to have their own. They even had kitchens-fully stocked with pots, pans…, and a TV. They were also a lot of fun I thought, because we got to cook our own food and we pretty much decided how our days would go on our own. This was definitely the best trip I’ve ever been on. I don’t think I’ve had so much fun on a trip like this. I still wish that I could’ve stayed longer in Ireland.

We have offered each of our children an opportunity to travel in the summer after their freshman or sophomore years in high school. Mostly, it’s because both of us had life-changing experiences by doing so. The world cracked open for us, and we were forever changed by seeing different cultures and experiencing different perspectives. Olivia is our youngest, and she was very clear that she didn’t want to see seven countries in eleven days; she wanted immersion. I searched long and hard for just the right program-the Irish Life Experience seemed exactly what she was looking for. We had zero reservations about sending our daughter away for weeks to a foreign country with ILE because we’d had the chance to speak to so many students and parents from years past. The one common thing every single person gushed about? Taryn Harrison. They thought the world of her-her stewardship is what enabled us to send our daughter with an open heart and mind. Olivia had an amazing experience-loved every aspect of the trip. She loved the classes, as they were fun, hands-on, AND informative. Loved the travels-they saw so much of Ireland and got to know particular areas well. Loved the sense of community fostered through games, tours, travel, and boarding together. I can’t recommend ILE and Taryn strongly enough. If you’re considering this trip, don’t even hesitate. Sign up now.
